Make TextEdit::singleline truncate?

After the update to 0.30.0 I can no longer make the window size smaller than the text inside the singleline example

let name_label = ui.label("Search:");
let response = ui
    .add_sized(ui.available_size(), egui::TextEdit::singleline(&mut app_self.Search.search_string))
    .labelled_by(name_label.id);

If search_string is 20 characters long it stretches the window size to make sure each character is displayed. I want to not do this, is there a way to do this other than just getting the length of the window's size and trying to truncate it before displaying?
