Cairo is the Capital of Egypt. It's the largest city in the Middle East and Africa. Before Cairo was the captial of Egypt. A city called Memphis was the capital of Ancient Egypt (founded around 3100 B.C.E by Menes). Menes was the first Pharaoh, he unified upper and lower Egypt. But he didn't want it to seem like he favored one part of Egypt more than the other so he built the capital "Memphis" on the border between the two. It was originally called Men-nefer, but the Greeks later called it Memphis

Origin

Cairo was founded by the Fatimid Dynasty in 969 C.E. The Fatimids were led by General Gawhar to establish a new capital for them. Near 200 years later, Egypts administrative centre remained in Fustat, but when the Fatimids set fire to Fustat, Egypt was permanently moved to Cairo. al-Qahira is the offical name of the city, it means "The Subduer". The name Cairo is believed to come from the Arabic name of Planet Mars, Which was rising on the day the city was founded.

How Awesome is Zamalek

Zamalek is a fanstastic neightborhood. It's between downtown Cairo and on one side of Dokki. Zamalek is able to be reached by way of the "Kasr El Nile Bridge, The "6th of October Bridge", and the "15th of May Bridge"... The "6th of October gets its name because it commemorates the date of "The Crossing", which commenced the outbreak of the October War in 1967. The "Kasr EL Nile Bridge" gets it's name frome being associated with thr royal family of King Fouad. The "15th of May Bridge" gets its name from the 1948 Arab Isreali War.

How could History be so Amazing

We all have knowledge that Egypt has countless sites to see, but these three are just a must. On the top Left is the Step Dyramid of Djoser...It was built during the 27th century B.C. for the burial of Pharaoh Djoser by his visier, Imhotep.
Bottom Left stands the Keops Pyramid. Its the oldest and largest of the three Pyramids in the Giza Necropolis. It's the oldest of "The Seven Wonders of the Ancient World" and the only one to remain largely intact. Egyptologist believe that it was build as a tomb over a 10 to 20 year period for Fourth Dynasty Egyptian Pharaoh Khufu.
Finally on your right stands "The Hanging Church"... It is one of the oldest churches in Egypt and it is approached by 29 steps. It appears to be the most famous Coptic Christian Church in Cairo. The Church is the site of Apparitions of Mary
