Source code should be as close to the original that it comes from as possible.

For vendors that only distribute tar balls, host a git repository that tracks modifications between releases but doesn't require re-downloading the entire thing.

Correct me if i'm wrong here sir, are we talking about the kernel source code by each vendor like these?
http://www.htcdev.com/devcenter/downloads
http://opensource.samsung.com/
http://developer.sonymobile.com/downloads/all-android/
http://support.zte.com.cn/support/news/NewsMain.aspx?type=service
http://consumer.huawei.com/en/support/downloads/

If we are talking about the same thing, it could be huge. o.O"

Yes that's the idea. The thing is that the changes are usually rather small but the archives are rather big. So the actual storage is not as big as you might thing. Using Git will save a ton of space and make it more convenient to review.

We can add the following for missing manufacturers:
http://sourceforge.net/motorola/wiki/Android/
https://www.lg.com/global/support/opensource/opensourceList?superOsCategoryId=CAT00000001&osCategoryId=CAT00000002

It would require quite a huge amount of information but would definitely be interesting.
