How can I transfer the X-Dream software to my other computer?

That original Trixter PC takes up a lot of space and the monitor is small. I want to use this software on a different computer and monitor. But there's no installer, and Trixter is gone, so no download link.

How do I get it onto my other computer?

This answer has been derived from an installation of X-Dream 3.50.0.3 on a Windows 7 Trixter/Dell Optiplex 780.

Screenshots are actually from Windows 10 on the same machine (with an SSD drive replacing the original) but the process is that same as for Windows 7.

Overview of the File System

On the X-Dream Dell PC, the Trixter folder is located in C:\Program Files.

There are 3 folders in the Trixter folder, Backup, Live and Trixter Additional Apps.
There is a file on the desktop called “XDream Test.exe”
The PostgreSQL database server has files stored in its install location too, but it’s not necessary or advised to access those directly. This isn't present in earlier versions, e.g. 2.x, which are using local or fileshare files for user data.

Getting the Software Off a Trixter/Dell PC

In summary:

• Copy the Trixter Software and Test Application
• Export the PostgreSQL database using its backup feature.

An 8GB USB flash drive should suffice.

The Trixter Software and Test Application

1. Copy the “XDream Test.exe” console application from the desktop to the “Trixter Additional Apps” folder.
2. Zip the Trixter folder (right-click, send to compressed folder)…

Windows won’t allow this; you’ll be prompted to create it on the desktop instead. Click Yes.

Exporting the PostgreSQL Database

This is not strictly necessary. If you don’t want to copy the user data, skip this step. The X-Dream software will simply create a blank database on the new system.

1. From the Start Menu, locate PostgreSQL 9.1 and start the “pgAdmin III” application
2. In the Object Browser, click into the server using the password “postgres”:
   
3. Click down to the trixter database, right click and select “Backup…”

4. Enter a file name to backup to, and the format, encoding and rolename options

5. Make sure all the objects are checked on the Objects tab:

6. Click the Backup button. Look for an exit code of 0.

Copy the trixter zip file and the database backup file to a USB flash drive.

Configuring a Different PC

In summary:
• Install the X-Dream Software

Installing the X-Dream Software

On the new system, unzip the zip file with the Trixter software.
It's a 32-bit application, so if “C:\Program Files (x86)” exists, put the Trixter folder there. Otherwise, put it in “C:\Program Files”.
You should end up with the Trixter folder under Program Files (or Program Files (x86))

Navigate into the “Trixter Additional Apps” folder.
Right click and drag the “XDream Test” executable onto the desktop, and when you release the right mouse button, select “Create Shortcuts Here”.
Do the same for these executables:

• Live\TrixterAppRelease.exe
• Trixter Additional Apps\Diagnostics\TrixterDiagnostics.exe

You will need to install the PL2303 driver to communicate with the X-Dream bike. #6
