From that Thread I can conclude the following roles of editor:

Use the shared widget to provide display value (In places like FilteringSelect etc.)
Use the shared widget to provide validation of a value in the cell
Mark the non-valid values in a way it will be visible that values are invalid

I will try to work on it if time allows.
