The combo boxes are almost unusably dark on Windows 11 in dark mode. Look fine on Windows 7 and Windows 10

Made some progress on this, but I'm not happy with the results yet. For now the work-in-progress has been tucked away on a temporary branch (volatile, will disappear when done): 3212a24

Specifically, I don't like how the combobox stays blue after the user has made a selection; I need to look at the WinForms base code to see how to suppress this.

Removing 1.0.0 milestone; this is not going to be fixed easily. It's annoying but doesn't really break anything. Keeping on the proverbial books, though.
