Your concept seems well thought through and should be popular with students. Two suggestions: allow users to extend the range of the 'nearby' feature, or virtually select a location: some users will want to see location based offers in areas they're not currently in. If you're building a mobile app, push notifications for certain stores or categories would be very useful for users.
