Description

Once users have selected a field in which to play on, they will need to have more information about that certain field. Information regarding the field will include whether a game is currently being played on the field and if not then who is 'the king' of that court. The 'king' aspect of the court is an aspect of the app that we aim to incorporate that turns the app into more of an interactive game similar to that of the late Pokemon GO. A basic breakdown of what the particular sporting arena is used for will be included so that users will be able to distinguish what they can and cant play on that field. The user will be able to view the schedule of events set by other users on a particular court for the day and from there will be able to join/create an event and will all be tied in to the pre game lobby screen as is seen on this wiki link: #5

The Prototype

The Users will need to have a user interface for the field that will display all of the necessary information for that field. Information will be user curated and will provide all users who view that field a breakdown of what that field is used for and any other source of basic information. Also users will be able to view what event is currently being hosted on the field, who is the current King of the court. There will be a basic overlay that will show itself when users press on a location on the map view. It the idea is for it to give a basic insight as to what the field is about and whether or not an event is currently being hosted or not. At the bottom of the screen are two buttons, one that takes the user to the event schedule screen which from there allows the user to view all events set on that field during the day and then join or create an event according. The other button will take the user back to the map view, but will highlight all of the basketball courts in the area near the one already selected, this will change dependant on what type of sports arena it is, AKA, if a football field, it will show all football fields in the area.

Testing Approach

I used Craft to create the screens for the prototype and then used Invision to make it interactive. Once completed I got users to test the app. I asked the users to perform various tasks and made a note on whether they struggled or not to perform said tasks.

Users were all given the same laptop to use and were all in the same environment. Once they finished the activities then I opened the survey for them to fill out which would allow me to see what features they liked and which features they didn't.

Testing Questions:

  • Who is the King of the Court?
  • Edit the Description of the Court
  • Find Similar Courts
  • Find and view the Event Schedule
  • Create an event on the Court
  • Join the event on the Court

Evaluation Outcomes

The results of the testing showed that on average, users found the design was intuitive and simple to use. However, many made comments that the designing scheme should be made as it was found to be difficult to distinguish what was your event on the schedule screen. Some also felt as if it did not act like an app should in the sense that the screens were not scrollable, essentially limiting the amount of information on any given screen. This piece of constructive criticism makes a lot of sense and we will make sure to incorporate this philosophy in our later iteration. The prototype's goal was to test what was necessary, in terms of functionality, and we feel as if user testing has helped us to gauge as to what is needed for our next iteration of the design.

Create New Sporting Arena

From the info gained here we need to create a mock-up of what features need to be included when users create a new sporting arena.
