Hello community!
This discussion will focus on some examples of DAO governance as hopefully we can learn from them.
I MUST ADD THIS IS ONLY MY OPINION AND I AM MORE THEN HAPPY TO LEARN FROM YOUR DIFFERENT OPINIONS AND EXPERIENCES.
My best two where I have started to really learn about being member of DAO is ION DAO and YOUDLEDAO.
First comes from Cosmos ecosystem but my focus points will be interchain so that really doesn't matter. I will not go into details what ION DAO or YOUDLE DAO are or what they do as we only shill Darwinia here;-)
Here are the points I learned from them
I belive every DAO should have some sort of team that starts the project (here I mean if project has a product to offer to market, not sure this applies to DCDAO). Developers and community managers are still a driving force in begining. The transition from this "centralized entity" to decentralized DAO is where most fail. I have seen so many bad examples where DAOs failed when discussions start with community. They still held to their own ideas and only posted voting proposals on their ideas. Why not stay centralized then and stick to your plan.
Community members bring different opinions and ideas and come with different field experiences. I think this is very welcome. But teams don't know how to benefit from them. THAT IS ALSO WHY I THINK WE SHOULD HAVE A FREE OPTION TO DO A QUESTIONARE WHEN JOINING DAO. In ION DAO for example we can all express everything we have on mind and ask everything that we question and what is most important to me I can talk to every DAO memeber in our TG group from core team members to ones who only check from time to time. I think this is the most important point to make one feeling as part of community. No question is left unanswered. If one gets missed by mistake we more active community members tag team members to reply. HAVING ALL MEMBERS OF DAO BEING ACTIVE IN CHAT IS VERY REASURING AND THEY CAN EXPLAIN ON SPOT. AND INTERESTING ENOUGH ALMOST NO QUESTIONS GET DOUBLED AS IT IS EXPLAINED FROM FIRST HAND.
Before proposal for voting goes live it is first disscused in forum specialy designed for governance talk. Here we talk about PROs and CONs before proposal goes live. I find this much better then what Darwinia governance has. It has improved now with its first proposal being written what it is about but still no replies to our opinions/comments from team members/proposers. This sadly gives feeling like community opinions/questions aren't important at all. But we the community will vote on this once it goes live. And understanding it is important. And we as DCDAO MUST improve this and help Darwinia governance as well. Communication must be THE MOST important to have a healthy community. I really felt from feedback being heard gives more courage to them and other members seeing this as well.
Whatever happens bad or good be transparent and write it first. I found that when community members find out first something changed without being announced it brings so much more damage then writting first. I saw an example in DAO where really bad news was posted what is happening with DAO and it got excepted without any bad comment and huge let's move on, no stop. On the other hand another DAO got caught hiding something and is listening for a year now why they did that and how to trust them again,THAT IS WHY MY PROPOSAL WOULD BE MONTHLY AMA WITH COMMUNITY.
Also it is important that we have one common place where important community discussions on important matters take place not everywhere TG, Discord, Twitter....
YOUDLE DAO has good solution too, It opens a folder in Discord on each proposal where we decide by clicking on different emoji letters for each option presented. Very easy and no cost. And we ALL active members discuss there. Great learning experience as well since many good things proposed next to GREAT UI SOLUTION IMHO.
