DBT docs generate with custom macros

dbt-core - version 1.1.1 and 1.2.1
os - linux/mac
dbt adapter - dbt for athena

I have written a custom macro for generate_schema_name and included it in the macros folder in the dbt directory.
When I try the dbt docs generate command, it doesn't work. It times out after 6-7minutes and errors out saying building catalog.json failed.
When I don't include the custom macro in the macros folder in the dbt directory, the docs generate command is working fine and as expected.
Since the exclusion of macros worked for the docs generate command worked, i'm guessing it doesn't have anything to do with the dbt adapter/profile i'm using but the custom macro that is causing the issue.

Can somebody please help it out? Thanks in advance.
