How to install without the many current bugs (for non developers)? #492
Comments
Hello bwprager, I am running latest Firefox on latest Windows 10 and discribed problems are not an issue for me:
Some tips that helped me in the past:
Google up how to invoke "Mozilla Profile Manager" to find instructions how to do this properly: You have to start firefox.exe with a start attribute -p to make the profile manager show up. Could "dragging tiles" be the cause for missing tiles?Long time ago I had experienced missing tiles, when I was dragging them into new positions. Last tip:Always tell the developer specifically what computer configuration you use. |
I let firefox backup install it in my new setups and it always installs working for me. I have installed it into a fresh browser/old config no less than 50 times and it comes right up working. I just did a fresh browser fresh add-on install and did not have any trouble. It must be something you want it to do it does not like. Try sticking with defaults. I have found in the past I get stuck on what I want when I should begin with what I am given. Just a thought. Hoping it helps. |
Guys, I appreciate your help. Unfortunately the issue (windows 10, Chrome latest version, Firefox latest version) as it currently stands is with Chrome. Because of many factors, I've had to switch to Chrome as main browser. Firefox conflicts in other areas unrelated to New Tab Tools. Therefore, the configuration updates and backups are up to date in Chrome; but in my own use, not in Firefox. Here's the issue: I don't know why Chrome can only back up NTT as a .txt file. It does not create a .zip, which Firefox does. Therefore, updated Chrome cannot create its own useable backup of NTT set up. Strange and I don't know why it is like this. A backup created in Chrome with latest data, is only a .txt file and cannot be used to Restore NTT after a failure or break. Do you know HOW to create a useable backup in the backup/ restore NTT function in Chrome? I really have no idea why it's different. Thank you in advance; and for the help up to now! |
Do you folks have difficulties with Firefox slowing to a crawl? I stopped using Firefox regularly because of its inability to load normally. It's a bit better now after a major reinstall of almost everything on the Win 10 computer. However the compatibility with Chrome has gotten worse. Chrome now shows a series of errors (not just a "violation of Chrome store rules" message that seem to have rendered NTT almost unusable in Chrome. If NTT can't work there, I am desperate for a substitute; that is, another add on/ extension that does something nearly similar. All I see in the Chrome store are decorative junk. We need NTT back, badly! |
Can someone please post instructions as to how to install this extension in its latest version without the bugs that plauge its use in both Firefox and Chrome. The issues are getting worse with respect to missing tiles, the inability of the browsers to read the extension, the failure of browser to create a correct and functioning backup. We LOVE this extension, but I'm not a developer and have no idea how to use any of this code. What we need is to install the extension with all the code corrections/ improvements that you have. Can this be done? Should I uninstall it and reinstall it in Chrome and Firefox? I'm afraid to do that because it can no longer create accurate backups, nor does it allow new sites to be added; and I'm afraid of losing all of the saved tiles I have. Please help!
