Statuses containing polls still show the regular text, but do not show the poll options or their text. So for example, a status saying "foo" with the options "bar" and "baz" would show up as a status simply saying "foo."
Expired poll notifications show the above and have the error header "Unrecognized notification from [user_who_made_the_poll]" whether or not it is seen from the account that made the poll.
There is no option to create polls when composing statuses.

@Marie-Joseph Where can I find a poll in order to reproduce this issue? Sorry but in my timeline I don't have none :-(
For my own testing purposes, I simply published a poll from the web interface and looked at the post in olifant. Any client that supports polls should do - you could also use a smartphone app, for example.
