<p>Dr. Chia-Yen Chen’s research interests lie in genetic epidemiology and statistical genetics methodology. He is a research fellow in the Analytic and Translational Genetics Unit (ATGU) and Psychiatric and Neurodevelopmental Genetics Unit (PNGU) at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), and the Broad Institute. Dr. Chen has been leading analyses for large-scale genome-wide studies of psychiatric disorders and behavioral traits. He is the leading statistical geneticist for the Army Study to Assess Risk and Resilience in Servicemembers (Army STARRS), which is the largest study of mental health among U.S. military personnel. Dr. Chen is also actively involved in national and international consortia for genetics research, including the Psychiatric Genomics Consortium schizophrenia Asian collaboration, which includes over 55,000 subjects with genome-wide data. Dr. Chen has also been developing novel methods to advance understanding and utilization of massive genetic data for health care. Dr. Chen’s research extended recently to aggregating electronic health record (EHR) and genomic data for precision medicine. He is applying machine learning to develop EHR-based automated phenotyping algorithms and risk prediction models combining EHR and genomic information. Dr. Chen studied at National Taiwan University, earning a BSc in life science and a MSc in epidemiology. He went on to earn a ScM in biostatistics and a ScD in epidemiology from Harvard School of Public Health.</p>
