This is a feature request to add a field for admin notes.
Use case example - we had a virtual meeting that people started emailing about claiming no one was showing up to run the meeting. We were able to reach out to someone to find out it and got a text message saying that the meeting isn't officially taking place and to pull it off the website.
We normally use a meeting update form that sends an email to the root server admin and those get saved for tracking purposes. But, in this case, it's not reasonable to ask the person who found out the info for us to please fill out the meeting update form. But it would be great to put a note in an admin field in the meeting about how we got the information since we don't have the meeting update form submission to rely on for tracking.
Eh.... just an idea.

I kind of like the idea of a hidden notes field that only admins can see.

Through chatting about this with others, I would like to add that it would also be good if this were added to the record history so admins could look back over previous notes, if need be. Just like we have the history now for changes to (almost) all of the record's fields, this field would be included.

The record history would be tough for a variety of reasons. One it's publicly accessible and there's no mechanism to redact certain changes right now. Also the way changes are actually stored is not ideal either.

That's why I added the comment here. It was a foregone conclusion in my mind when I was originally writing but it was through some chat that it was brought to light it wasn't so simple to include it in the history. But I'd like the concept to be explored because the notes can get overwritten (as text in the comments field can) so there's a benefit to maintaining the history of what's in that field. Maybe something like how you have to be logged in to see unpublished meetings, or the contact fields, maybe there's a way to require login to be able to see the "admin notes" ??
