The Future of the Beaker Project
Hello everyone 👋🏻 ,
I would like to summarize here the near future and the goals we are trying to achieve.
We are planning to ship 2 new releases.
Release 29
This will be released after a considerable amount of time.
This release will only contain minor changes to documentation, minor fixes to client code, broken builds, etc.
Pretty much maintenance. The only major change will be the addition of support for custom bootloaders.
This will give us a pretty good idea of how everything is working after we have been out for a few years.
Release 30
This release will include a new lab controller compatible with Python 3.6+.
Releases beyond
Our goal is to migrate the current codebase to Python 3.
Since we have been using some outdated technologies on the server side, it is clear that some things will change. We plan to deliver a completely new user interface and API. We will try to minimize the amount of disruptive changes, but we can't promise that everything will be the same. We have kept the API layer the same for many years and it is time to make some adjustments to allow us to continue to grow.
This is a brief overview of what to expect. We will provide more information as we move forward 🚀 .
If you would like to talk to us, feel free to join us on Libera's IRC, channel #beaker, or you can use our mailing list [email protected].
