Not enough feedback to indicate debug execution

Little indication that the debug had started or progressed after selecting the data file.

Under what circumstances?
Was this a case of not having the "Automatically stop after launch" box checked? If so, the pop-up box indicating an info-set file was created would be the only indication.
I don't remember what the output is when there is a parse error.
