So, like the others, I have the problem that I cannot open the newer databases.
After a long search I found a solution
You have to install the "Backuptrans iPhone WhatsApp Transfer" app (it must be the Pro version, otherwise you can only open 20 messages), then import the database and export it again.
The exported database can now be read with Whatsapp Viewer as usual.
