Agenda Items

  • General writing status on Chapters 1 and 2.
  • Alexi's editing on splitting the original Chapter 1 in two.
  • .css editing by Andy.
  • Google Analytics to keep a concrete track of user engagement.
  • Progress on dataset generation via AI. We might consider making a dataset R package for the user, such as bayesrules. Instructions to set up this package are here via a new repo.
  • Type of LICENSE. Currently, we have Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International.
  • Shall we work by branches? If so, any ideas on how to implement PRs?
  • Discuss double dipping.
  • Discuss using examples throughout the book (shall we use the simulated datasets?).
  • Discuss how long we aim for each chapter to be.

Action Items

  • For callout boxes (definition, heads-up, and tip), bar colours for titles (shades of blue) are fine, along with icons (thanks, @andytai7 ).
  • Is it possible to include cross-references for the above callout boxes?
  • Changing the text colour to medium gray in these callout boxes.
  • There will be a second img folder in the repo’s root to store images used throughout the whole book.
  • @andytai7 will commit the new callout boxes to the main branch with demos on the 01-intro.qmd.
  • If we want to use royalty-free images, Unsplash or Pixabay are great resources. Ideally, we would provide credit; e.g., "Image by [author] via [Pixabay]."
  • After setting up the new callout boxes, we will continue writing Chapters 1 (@phchen5 and @andytai7 ) and 2 (@alexrod61) in our respective branches (different from main).
  • All changes/additions to writing will be made through the respective chapter's .qmd via these aforementioned branches.
  • We will render to html in the main branch to update the GitHub page accordingly.
  • Within the main branch, @phchen5 and @andytai7 will update their bios and pictures in index.qmd.
  • @alexrod61 will start working on the ice cream data for the case study of Chapter 1. This will pave the way to our second repo with all datasets to be used in the book.
  • For Chapter 1, it's OK to use hypothetical examples (without data) to illustrate all the concepts in the workflow.
  • @andytai7 will look into the AI-generated datasets, and make a new repo for the datasets so we can devinstall the package for now before maybe one day putting it on CRAN. An useful tutorial to create this repo can be found here.

Note: Some action items from the the previous meeting are still pending.

Next meeting:

Some weekday between September the 2nd and 6th. We will touch base on the first day of that week.
