Brackets took over file extensions without asking me #9014
Comments
@saucefrog what version of Brackets did you install? This was fixed with the most recent release (Release 0.42) https://github.com/adobe/brackets-shell/pull/459/files so let us know if that's not the case. Also, did you have a clean install or a previous version of Brackets installed already? |
correction Release 0.43 |
@saucefrog Trust me, this is a well known limitation. Please upvote the Trello card if you would like to see this happen! @JeffryBooher This does not sound like an issue of it "stealing" predefined associations (like #6073 initially assumed), but more like it associates previously unregistered file types, which is the expected behavior (#6073 (comment)). That being said (and as fully agreed upon in that issue and stated in the Trello card), these things need to be user configurable. I said it once before, a way some of this confusion can be cut down before user-configurable stuff is implemented would be to cut down on some of the file types Brackets attempts to associate. |
We also have this PR which is just about ready to go in adobe/brackets-shell#333 That will essentially make an installation-free version of brackets but there are some logistics that we need to work out when the story is complete. |
Sprint 43 Experimenteller Build 0.43.0-14375 (German version) No previous installation (and this issue really left me with a negative first impression about this software!). |
@le717 pointed out the card on the backlog, so I'm closing this. |
I can't believe it, I deinstalled 0.43, installed 0.44 and this software still takes over file extensions! Fix it already, please. Also, I'm not going to sign up on another website just to upvote an issue we should be able to discuss here. |
Release 1.0 build 1.0.0-15191, installed today, also took over several file extensions. Can somebody finally fix this please? It's seriously annoying having to go to the registry and remove all the extensions I don't want associated with anything every time I install it on a computer.. |
I installed Brackets on my Windows 7 system. All .json and all .config files (and probably some more I didn't notice) now have the Brackets icon.
I don't want that. In future versions, let the installer ask us if we want to associate certain file extensions with Brackets.
