[Feature Request]Add version number to the released version file #273
Comments
Sounds strange, but you can set the file name for each download, so you can put the version info (which is in About) there |
In fact, it is to avoid the need for manual version settings, which can prevent historical versions from being overwritten locally. Manually changing the file name each time is also possible, but it is a bit cumbersome. Many open-source software releases have the habit of adding version numbers, such as tabby, gopeed |
I didnt quite understand the reason behind putting app version in file name. Could you elaborate? |
After I download the software, it will generally be saved to the network disk, if there is no version number, I need to manually modify the file name every time I update the download to ensure that the previous historical version will not be overwritten. And every time I make a change I need to look at the current version number, which is a hands-free step for automated builds |
Just like the software name contains different operating systems, architectures, and suffixes, this is done to better identify the software itself, and the version number can be known by the file name, for example, when I want to share with others, I can use the version number to determine which file to choose. If the latest version has a bug and I want to roll back a version, I don't need to go to the githyb repository and re-download it, because it already exists locally. The release is added to the version number to avoid manual changes, which can be added at build time. |
My bad, idk why I thought you wanted to add app version to saved video/audio files Yes I understand you, that makes sense, however I have download badges on github and app site, and adding version name to release files would break it. If I can find a way to add version info without breaking badges, I would happily add it |
thank you |
