To avoid writing snapshots on ci environment, we should avoid writing them by default.

Use environment configuration locally when running tests inside IDE
Provide explicit error messages when snapshot not found, with steps to perform
Create documentation to set variables inside Intellij and Eclipse, and with command line Maven and Gradle
