Upgrade 3.2 to 3.3

I installed stable 3.2 the manual way. How can I now upgrade to 3.3?
Since I translated 3.2 to german, I'd like to contribute this translation, and also implemented an alternative for the swf-file on the main landing page - but found out now, that the code is already for 3.3, and the structure has changed massively.
I already tried copying the new files, to the place where the 3.2 files are currently - but that obviously did not work. Also I guess, there is some migration of the DB necessary?

I documented, what I did to get it running, also with the new 3.4 branch:

1. deleted all files from web root
2. downloaded 3.3 release package (zip) and unpacked it
3. moved all files/folders within "upload" directory to web root
4. manually created the folder "public/compiles"
   If you do not want to play the 3.4 dev branch, skip step 5.
5. downloaded 3.4 branch and replaced all files in web root
6. browsed the server url and completed the installation
7. play the game with 3.3 release and 3.4 branch
