Explore ways on how to support, mentor, and grow our contributors

Ideas/action items

  • Improve the badge system so it's clear and consistent across all teams
  • Project based training and mentoring
  • Include financial incentives and career opportunities for contributors
  • Create project-wide onboarding docs so that all Teams have capacity to onboard and train new contributors.
  • Create standardized list of Team roles, skills, and commitments
  • Provide clear/easy entry points for contributing to multiple Teams
  • Work with groups and organizations outside of the WordPress ecosystem to create a pipeline of new contributors

@harishankerr As mentioned in the last Contributor Working Group’s Mentorship Chat (and related discussions), I think Sustainability Team could be a test case #2 and a contributor.

Similarly one of the primary ways we're extending do_action #21 is to include opportunities for new contributors and maintainers to receive hands-on training during the entire web development process and thereafter.

Assuming we can put together a team of available/sponsored contributors to forward the following, we'll be able to incentivize a larger/diverse pool of mentors needed to revitalize the pipelines and grow the community.

What do you think?
