Have done the install a few times successfully, but most recently, I'm getting this new screen and not booting into windows, its got a qr code that has a url beneath it of "aka.ms/devicerecovery". What could I potentially doing wrong?

Can only be one of the following:

  • You likely forgot a command or two when partitioning your device with parted (which would make esp missing, or not of system partition type)
  • or you simply forgot to run the bcdboot command after applying the wim
  • or you think you're using the right letter for the ESP partition with bcdboot but you're not and are instead using a ghosted partition letter

To fix all of this, follow the uninstall guide first (please do! even if you think it's not needed), reboot your pc (to clear ghosted letters) and then follow the install guide again (to get back into a proper state)
