Might be out of reach just like #9, but could you teach maids to keep distance not only from player but also from each other?
For example: you have a group of like 5-10 maids with you. When they follow you around, they always make a crowd. It doesn't look good and sometimes lead to friendly fire by archers in that crowd. My suggestion would be to make maids not to follow the exact player coordinates, but same coordinates with random offset for each maid that would depend on a number of maids in a group. That would make maids to follow in a less crowded matter. Or to make maids spread out a bit right after catching up to the player.
