I see various analyses for Inc., LLC, etc. in EWT:

https://universal.grew.fr/?custom=6716d814d7ece

  • Once as a flat child of the company name
  • Once as right branching compound child
  • Occasionally as appos to the company name
  • Mostly as head of the company in question, with the actual name being a compound modifier (with somewhat dubious internal structures - mostly all tokens in the name are individual compound children of Inc, which seems wrong)

What structure do we want here? GUM uses flat, but I'm not sure if that's the best. One could argue for acl ("incorporated") or even amod on similar grounds. I think compound is probably wrong though... @nschneid thoughts?

Part of the nmod:desc discussion IMO. :) Adding it to the list for our next meeting.

Hm, OK, I think they may be different from all the cases we've discussed so far. For example it's clear to me that these suffixes are droppable, so they're definitely not the heads - I'm just curious how literal we want to be in maybe considering them acl etc. But happy to talk about them more at the next meeting of course, hopefully they'll be easier!
