Converted to a discussion to clean up issues.
Continues from #11
Summary: Currently, the PCI-e switch in use on the project has four lanes of bandwidth (1 upstream, 3 downstream in our configuration), all of which we use on exposed PCI-e slots and a potential slot for M.2, split between itself and PCIE1 (via a toggle switch)
Using the bigger brother of our switch IC, the PI7C9X2G606PR, gives us a potential for 1 upstream, 5 downstream ports. Unfortunately, this cannot be purchased loosely from any reputable vendors like Mouser, DigiKey, etc. It would require us having a relationship with Diodes/Pericom to purchase a larger amount at a time, quite detrimental to an open source board.
Will revisit this once Revision 1.0 is achieved.
