Since the approval process for #16 was "rubber-stamped", we should add documentation around the inclusion of a JSON Schema (and jsonvalidate) so that the entire team (and future maintainers) are comfortable with this paradigm.

cc @cjyetman @jdhoffa for context on what would be useful to include.
