Event Information
Quantum Meets Music provides different perspectives on the relation between quantum physics and music, featuring performances by quantum scientists. It is part of an ongoing workshop in Oxford, organised by the QISS (Quantum Information Structure of Spacetime) consortium (https://www.qiss.fr/), in collaboration with the Department of Computer Science of Oxford University, Quantinuum (https://www.quantinuum.com/about) and quantum art-tech company Moth (https://mothquantum.com/). Several of the performances will be accompanied by a short explanatory slide presentation.
Programme:
Prof Aleks Kissinger aka `Reverend Kenny Kissinger and the Church of the Larger Hilbert Space’.
Oxford-based quantum computing professor Aleks Kissinger opens with songs about quantum physics to the tune of blues and gospel standards.
Dr Alexis Toumi, Matthieu Poli, Sven Bjorn Fi aka TALLY.
TALLY is an artistic artificial intelligence of a new kind, popping over from Paris. It uses quantum natural language processing — as developed by the Quantinuum team in Oxford including Alexis and Bob — to compose abstract paintings, which it then draws using robot arms.
Prof Carlo Rovelli and Belladonna.
The single by Italian band Belladonna and renowned science writer Carlo Rovelli will be streamed and we will have a chat with him on how this came about.
Prof Bob Coecke, Bruce Warner aka Black Tish.
Black Tish is an Oxford-based band and one song will be played with altered lyrics to mark the occasion, focussing on academic grants, and another song will be used to illustrate how quantum-like composition is also happening in non-quantum music.
Prof Eduardo Miranda.
A recording of performances in Barcelona and London by leading quantum computer musician and researcher Prof Eduardo Miranda, accompanied by an interview with Miranda. In these performances, Miranda interacted live with actual quantum computers located at the other side of the Atlantic.
Dagger Quantum Orchestra.
Everyone above and more will improvise some music guided by a Black Tish background blanket. Expect it to be industrial.
