When a profile is disabled, entering the profile URL into the address bar intuitively returns a 404 error page.
However, while using Pony.fm, navigating via a link to a disabled profile causes the loading UI to remain on screen indefinitely despite the API call returning a 404 status code until the user navigates to a different page.
In this example, clicking on the link to The Living Tombstone's profile while on site displays the loading UI only for it to not be automatically hidden.

Some investigation work was finally able to be done. It turns out the root cause of this specific issue was a data issue where the profiles aren't actually disabled but were being missed somehow. A mitigation strategy is now in place.
I'll leave the issue open as improving on the indefinite loading is still a relevant action item.
