We had 55 attendees for a highly interesting session with some great discussion. In our before and after poll, you reported a mean increase in knowledge of pharmaco-epi methods so we hope you found the session informative and enjoyable. - -Keynote talk - -Our keynote talk was from Professor Neil Davies, a medical statistician who holds a joint appointment with UCL’s Division of Psychiatry and Department of Statistical Sciences. Thanks to Neil for a great talk on How to use instrumental variable analysis for pharmacoepidemiology, in which he outlined a framework for using this method in health records data. We hope his talk inspired you to consider new ways of investigating causal inference using routine health data. The recording of Neil’s talk can be accessed here (passcode: qW4xd&bg, note that you must be logged into Zoom to access). - -5-minute methods competition - -Many thanks to our four early to mid-career speakers for their excellent presentations. Our first speaker was Miriam Leung from Monash University in Melbourne, Australia, who gave a talk on “Gabapentinoids and risk of hip fracture: a population-based case-case-time-control study”. This was followed by a talk from Bohee Lee from Imperial College London on “The effectiveness of metformin for asthma attacks in adults”. Our next presentation was from Paris Baptiste of Queen Mary University London on “Real-world cardiorenal effects of dual RAS-blockade using a reference trial emulation approach”. Finally, Alexander Labeit from UCL talked to us about his work on “Use of hormone replacement therapy (HRT) and survival from cancer in women with different types of cancer”, some of Alexander’s work has been published here. - -Congratulations to Paris who was our competition winner! - - -Workshop summary: “Speed collaborating” - -We split into pairs in breakout rooms to introduce ourselves to each other, discuss our work and talk about key challenges and opportunities for collaboration. Pairs were then shuffled around and finally we re-convened as a whole group to feedback to each other. Four key challenges were identified: 1) getting started with pharmacoepi projects, 2) data access , 3) missing data when using routine primary care data (e.g. ethnicity) and 4) setting validation criteria – standardised approach/guidelines. We’re very grateful to everyone who participated for their enthusiasm and input. - - We hope to see you at our next meeting in the autumn, and we’re also planning a smaller focused event in the summer– join our mailing list for future updates: http://eepurl.com/hszZkf - - -Best wishes, -Annie, Cini, Sophie and Alvin - -Mailing list: http://eepurl.com/hszZkf -Twitter/ X: @ucl_pharm_epi -Website/ github: https://github.com/Pharmacoepi-Data-Collaborative/home diff --git a/events&training/pastevents/x b/events&training/pastevents/x new file mode 100644 index 0000000..8b13789 --- /dev/null +++ b/events&training/pastevents/x @@ -0,0 +1 @@ +
