How do you work outside of protege

I was looking for some tools for .omn files and did not find any. What do you use outside of protege? Is there syntax highlighting or even a language server protocol? What is your specific development environment?

In the particular case of the OEO I would not recommend working outside Protegé and robot. I dislike the click click click functionality it has as well, but there is currently no other ontology developing envirionment that offers the consistency we need in this particular project.

If you are interested in developing for other projects using different tools I recommend getting familiar with:

• OWLAPI: Is the most developed API to work with OWL, afaik is the only tool that interacts with OMN files. Used in the backgroudn by Protegé.
• robot: This is more of an Ontology swiss knife, use it to build scripts. I personally find it a little bit esoteric, one has to play around its features a lot to get the desired result. It is however very useful, we use it for some tasks in this project. This uses OWLAPI in the backend.
• horned-owl: Is a project I have been following for a while, they offer an API with similar functionality to OWLAPI but implemented in Rust and apparently way faster. it is still in heavy development and it does not support OMN, only RDF, XML and other more standard OWL dialects.
• py-horned-owl: THis is one of my favorite projects and I use it for some simple ontology tasks. It is a Python wrapper around horned-owl, very experimental and is missing a lot of features.
• tawny-owl: I think this is the closes to what I think you were expecting, it is a command based ontology development environment. IDK how deep in development it is, you might aswell try it.
