Why do you distinguish between conventional and renewable power plants?

As far as i can see, the difference is in the dispatchability of the plants. (see https://nbviewer.jupyter.org/github/Open-Power-System-Data/conventional_power_plants/blob/2018-12-20/main.ipynb#5.2-Energy-source-structure)
One point to be mentioned are the run-of-river plants, which seem to be separated in renewable and conventional (probably depends on the size as well)
