CCPP Framework

• PR 463: Support multiple concurrent instances per MPI task
  • Appears to be ready for merge, any other action needed?
    • We need to define the size of the "initialized" array in the prebuild config, Mike will add to his to-do list.
• PR 467: Need plan for implementing process and time-split physics in capgen

Standard names

• Issue 33: Add check_xml_unique Github Action
  • Addressed by PR 34: Add GitHub Actions CI for pull requests
• PR 35: Add new 'precipitation' standard name rule
  • Waiting on Cheryl to approve minor changes
• Issue 36: Non-universal definition of specific humidity

New items for discussion

• New proposed standard name rule:
  • Unless stated otherwise, the word "cloud" refers to all cloud types (e.g. "cloud_area_fraction" includes ice and liquid clouds, as well as stratiform and convective clouds).
  • UFS current definition of cloud fraction does not correspond to this
  • The change in the standard names should be uncontroversial
  • If we use terms "stratiform" and "convective", we need to ensure that these terms are properly defined.
  • Jesse will open PR, if further discussion is needed we can have it there
• What's the deal with https://github.com/ESCOMP/PhysicalConstantsDictionary? Should we be using this to unify across schemes/hosts?
  • We will have further discussion next week; Jesse will follow up with Ligia as well.
