Microchip MPLAB® Harmony 3 Crypto v4 Release Notes

Crypto Release v4.0.0-E3

New Features

  • Added Beta Hardware Acceleration for PIC32CZ_CA9x Includes hardware acceleration drivers to speed up cryptographic operations as an alternative to wolfSSL on supported algorithms.
  • Added Support for PIC32CM_SG Enables SW support for wolfSSL on supported algorithms
  • Enable Beta Software support on supported algorithms for the following device families
    • PIC32CX SGxx
    • PIC32CM LSxx
    • SAME5x
    • SAMV7x
    • SAML11
    • PIC32MZ EF
    • SAMA7D65

  • This is an engineering release which has not been fully validated

Crypto Release v4.0.0-E2

New Features

  • Added Beta Hardware Acceleration for PIC32CXMTG Includes hardware acceleration drivers to speed up cryptographic operations as an alternative to wolfSSL on supported algorithms.
  • MCC Configuration Options The crypto v4 library now supports enabling hardware acceleration on PIC32CXMTG for the following cryptographic operations
    1. Hash Algorithms:

      SHA-2: SHA2-224, SHA2-256, SHA2-384, SHA2-512  
      
    2. Symmetric Algorithms:

      AES: ECB, CBC, OFB, CTR, CFB1, CFB8, CFB64, CFB128  
      
    3. MAC Algorithms (Message authentication code):

      *N/A*  
      
    4. Digital Signature Algorithms:

      ECDSA
      
    5. AEAD Algorithms (Authenticated Encryption With Associated Data):

      AES-GCM
      
    6. KAS Algorithms(Key Agreement Scheme):

      ECDH
      
    7. RNG (Random Number Generator) - Requires TRNG module in MCC

      TRNG
      

Bug fixes

  • SHA2-384, SHA2-512 hardfault
  • WOLFSSL_AES_EAX related build errors

Known issues

  • MD5 does not work with compiler optimization-level >2.

Crypto Release v4.0.0-E1

New Features

  • New API's for all Cryptographic Operations This is an engineering release supporting a new Harmony Crypto v4 Library featuring a new API and optimized code base. No Hardware acceleration is available in this Engineering release.

  • Support for updated wolfCrypt/wolfSSL The cryptographic library now has support for wolfSSL version 5.6.6 or later.

  • MCC Configuration Options Initial release of Crypto v4 API Library supporting the following algorithms

    1. Hash Algorithms:

      MD5  
      RIPEMD-160  
      SHA-1  
      SHA-2: SHA2-224, SHA2-256, SHA2-384, SHA2-512  
      SHA-3: SHA3-224, SHA3-256, SHA3-384, SHA3-512, SHAKE-128, SHAKE-256  
      BLAKE: Blake2b, Blake2s  
      
    2. Symmetric Algorithms:

      TDES/3DES: ECB, CBC
