It would be nice to have a block that emits a redstone signal according to the environmental radiation. This could be used to automate turning the generator on and off.

It could also be used to sound a radiation alarm, light a redstone lamp. drop extra shielding - that kind of thing.

A settable upper (signal 15) and lower (signal 0) threshold would make sense, too.
