The package paradox is hosted on MELPA. But it depends on spinner, which lives on GNU ELPA. This means that there is no one ELPA repository from which you can install Paradox. In order to install it, you need both archives configured.

This feels... weird? To me. But I don't have a lot of emacs experience. Maybe this is commonplace.

This cropped up for me because GNU ELPA's TLS certificate is misconfigured in a harmless way, but a way that breaks gnutls-enabled Emacs, so I couldn't install Paradox at work (even though Paradox lives on MELPA).

This is very weakly annoying to me, but easily worked around on my end. I just felt it was weird. Feel free to close if this does not bother you.

Don't worry, it's perfectly normal for packages on Melpa to depend on packges on GNU Elpa. GNU Elpa is preconfigured in Emacs since version 24, so everyone should have it setup.
