Motivation

Every year 250,000 to 500,000 people get added to the list of those suffering from the locked-in syndrome or what we call in simple language - paralysis. These people are not able to communicate with anyone although they are well aware of their surroundings. Scientifically speaking Locked-In-Syndrome is a form of paralysis in which the person loses control over their voluntary muscles. They can't communicate, talk and express themselves.

Idea

Our project aims to provide a way of communication for such individuals.
Using the blink of the patient's eyes, we formulate what he intends to say, and further using text to speech, the listener is able to listen to what the patient wanted to convey. We have built a solution using NodeJs, OpenCV and Python modules. We have a website as the starting point of the project. Ones the application is started, the user can select the letters he wants to say through eye blinks and real-time video processing. Ones the user has formed a complete word, the word is spelt.

Our project gives freedom of expression to those who are deprived of it
