Formatted field values are not rendered in visualizations, only in table

The following two pictures show the display of formatted fields in visualizations:
The selected formatting (image in the first case and percentage in the second case) is only shown in the table below the visualization, but not in the visualization itself.

Note: the field formatting has been set via the interface, under Settings -> Datasets, and then editing the column "controls" for the chosen fields.
