Or at least avoid explicitly forbidding it

Will be useful for use in Flux, where arbitrary nested structs can be used as parameters

At the moment the policy is: numbers and arrays are thoroughly tested, other stuff may work for some backends but expect to make a few tweaks along the way.
More specific issues are welcome
