Mr. Jayantha De Silva
The Chairman
Information and Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA)
Kirimandala Mawatha
Colombo 05
Dear Mr. De Silva,
The Journey to Digital Transformation
First, let me congratulate you and the newly appointed board on your appointments and wish you
every success in your new duties to the ICTA.
As you are aware, the Federation of Information Technology Industry of Sri Lanka (FITIS) was set up
in 1996 as the apex body of the ICT sector in the country, covering all major industry segments such
as system integrators and hardware vendors, software development firms, training & education
institutes, digital service companies, telco & other communication companies, office automation
vendors and ICT professional bodies.
The President and the board of FITIS wishes to solicit ICTA support as given in the past years thus, I
write to you in view of apprising you with all our intended future developments as follows.
This year we embarked on a strategy focusing on Digital Transformation within the country. In the
context of the digital transformation, FITIS has identified initiatives that would focus on digital
transformation in the upcoming years as a focal point in our agenda.
Considering the speed of industrial revolution unfolding across the globe, Sri Lanka falls far behind in
terms of embracing digital technology; be it in the private or public sector or as an individual.
Therefore, to encourage digital adoptions within and across key industries, we wish to:
a. Build platforms of expert consultations in view of encouraging and supporting the
organizations to embrace digital initiatives
b. Increase ICT literacy levels within all sections of the population
c. Supporting and assisting in expediting e-government initiatives
d. Working with government to increase smart phone and internet penetration
e. Providing digital advisory and consultancy for export companies by linking tech companies
with our exporters.
f. Leadership Forums of FITIS will organize conclaves that disseminates knowledge on digital
transformation amongst senior government officials and business leaders’ which FITIS sees as
a vital trigger point to progress the transformation agenda.
g. As part of creating a platform to recognize digital initiatives we ought to embark on a Digital
Transformation Awards Ceremony, which would recognize companies and industries that
embrace digital tools and systems in ways that fundamentally reshape their organization and
the customer experience.
On behalf of our Board may I request us meeting with you to further enlighten you on above initiatives
please.
Thank you
Your sincerely,
THE FEDERATION OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY INDUSTRY -SRI LANKA
