The make include GFTL_SHARED.mk.in has a reference to GFTL_TOP_DIR:

gFTL-shared/GFTL_SHARED.mk.in

Line 9 in 67f1338

GFTL_TOP_DIR := @GFTL_TOP_DIR@

But this is nowhere assigned (as far as I can see), and so it remains empty in the installed file, and GFTK.mk is not found.
(The same happens in the fargparse and pfunit packages).
