Describe your suggestion

I'd like it so the dyed covered cables from AE2 could be used to make smart or dense cables. Right now you can only make those with undyed cables.
Remaining dyed matters less, so really just "any covered cable" for the recipes would work well enough for me, but it'd be nice if it could retain the dye. Maybe only retaining the dye for smart cables though, because you'd be able to mix and match dense cable...

Why would you like this added/changed?

I already dyed all my covered cables, but now I can't make them dense or smart without washing the dye off, which is dumb and annoying

Making a bunch of extra recipes to support this sounds like a lot of work. How about we find a way to make washing less annoying?

Could we do an input replacement, all specific cables replaced with their tag equivalent?

The recipes for washing are already tag based, so there's 1 recipe that handles all colors to washed. As far as I can tell we'd have to just make a big array and loop through everything to produce all the individual recipes

I mean the cable -> smart/dense cable recipes, not the washing. So we accept the cable tag, instead of the standard cable.

Oh, I see what you mean. Yeah, maybe. I'll poke at it some more in a bit. I just hope it doesn't make things unreadable (trying to find the correct crafting route in a pile of looping color recipes)

I recall this being an issue back in e2e actually.

It's better than it used to be I guess. Not cycling, anyway.

It still feels less user friendly than the very direct crafting route shown by default though. Honestly, not a big fan.

I'm fine either way to be honest, this addition is both good and bad imo 😂

alright. I'll leave that be then. I feel washing is the better solution, ultimately, and am glad for it. I do understand manually washing with buckets is not great though (snow is also an option and removes the bucket annoyance).

Hopefully the washing recipes I've added in my PR will also help that situation.

Wouldn't it make sense just to have the cables directly craftable back to the undyed variant? Removing the water bucket and have it able to craft from dyed to undyed would probably be the easiest solution.

Snow is basically free, and easier to work with than water buckets. It just requires the player to actually go get some, which isn't a terrible thing.
