Kelly Miller’s “Achievements of the Negro Race” is an essay and not a review. It should be cut. Kelly Miller mentions the titles of various Chesnutt books, but that’s it. There is no commentary on any individual title. Stumbling across this item makes me think that there are likely other items that our grad students have judged to be reviews that we wouldn’t agree are reviews. Maybe in the summer the co-directors can divide up the reviews and (let’s hope) verify that each one is in fact a review.
