could not find the color palette.

first time trying this out so could be missing something but, im trying to paint on a large wooden sign and evrytime i try i get the error
shown in image, could not find the color palette.

i am not sure how it detects the color palette as i dont see a way to calibrate that like the canvas and image, so i have no idea
how to fix this any help is apreciated.
