@farleylai this is not really a priority for us now, but we are happy to accept any contributions and patches. Feel free to send in some code!

Sure, if I get some time to step into your code base thoroughly. So far, I am thinking of an event tree of checkboxes since the ftrace events are organized as a tree. The user can disable/enable events of an entire subtree or just some child nodes. Of course, a text filter should qualify but it would require the user to know the event names.
One step further could be dynamic lanes that form specific views of some tasks or hardware components. So the CPU lanes serve as the master lanes while the sublanes are dynamically visualized as needed. The API interface may consider accepting other csv traces as input and display a synchronized view with kernel events. This might benefit some mobile apps from exploiting kernel events to behave accordingly.
